Skittish at birth, it took Enoch a while to grow into himself. He used to always be afraid of things; loud noises, rabbits, water - you name it and it spooked him. With time and exposure, though, he slowly began to get used to the world. Now, he is calm the vast majority of the time, though a few things still cause him to jump. Thunderstorms are a notable example of this. Enoch hates thunder. He's terrified of it, and flashes of lighting just scare him even more.
Perhaps it is due to his early nerves that he is such a sweetheart. Enoch seems to love everybody, though he favours humans more than horses. The second he sees a member of staff, he perks up and instantly moves to get as close as he can to them. If he can, he'll rub his head against them and cuddle up with them for as long as he's allowed. Enoch loves all kinds of affection, but his absolute favourite is being scratched behind the ear. If he could, he'd happily stand for hours while somebody did that for him. In addition to humans, Enoch seems to have a certain fondness for Merlin, the stable's dog. If he can get into a field to be with the colt, the two enjoy spending time with each other. Enoch will graze while Merlin sniffs about nearby and, sometimes, they can be caught racing each other. Amusingly, Enoch often slows himself down when they do this so the dog can keep up with him. Predictably, the starting gate was an issue for Enoch. Thankfully, it was clear this was going to be an issue, so training to get him used to it began early and, now, he behaves almost perfectly when it comes to them. When the gates open, Enoch breaks slowly. His running style is very much that of a last second burst of energy. He'll settle toward the back of the pack for the majority of the race, his fondness for other horses seemingly soothing his nerves a little as he keeps up with his opponents - even boosting him, as confidence replaces the tension he was feeling - and then, as the leader approaches the final turn, his jockey will prompt will jump forward with impressive speed. He'll rush forward, making a dash for first place with his signature last minute wind. |
